During Pregnancy

Although one cup of green tea or two is acceptable, it is better for pregnant women to avoid green tea due to presence of caffeine and tannic acid.

<

Caffeine can disrupt the normal sleeping pattern of your growing baby and cause him or her to be restless as caffeine is a stimulant.

Caffeine and tannic acid can also make it harder for the human body to absorb iron - an essential mineral needed for red blood cell formation.

Due to a greater demand of blood to support the growth of the fetus, anemia is very common during pregnancy. Caffeine and tannic acid present in green tea can make this problem worse.

It is true that green tea contains antioxidants which can boost the immune system of the expecting mothers, but expecting mothers can get these antioxidants from other healthy sources.
